Detroit is about a 20 minute drive from the airport -- Ubers/Lyfts are generally available but can get pricey late at night. MetroCab also has 24 hour service to and from the Detroit airport.
If you're staying in Downtown Detroit, the Detroit Air Xpress (DAX) express bus service may also be a good option. It is a direct bus that connects DTW to Downtown Detroit -- it stops downtown at 1119 Washington Blvd (0.5 miles from the Hilton). Tickets are $6-8 and can be purchased in advance or at the time of boarding. See website for hours, schedule, and bookings.
Our wedding venue is about a 5 minute walk from The Inn on Ferry Street. Walk 2 blocks south on John R St, and you will see it on your left, opposite the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Rideshare / Driving
If you choose to take an Uber or drive, the Scarab Club is a 5-7 minute drive from the Hilton Garden Inn. There is paid parking available at our venue.
Transit
If you have a little more time to spare and want to see more of the city, we'd recommend taking the Q-line streetcar! The Q-line will take you down Woodward Avenue, past the Fox Theater, the Detroit Institute of Art, and other Detroit landmarks.
The Q-line is free to ride-- you can just walk on and walk off. We'd recommend getting on the Q-Line at the Campus Martius stop (7min walk from the Hilton), and getting off at the Warren Ave stop (4min walk to the Scarab Club). Streetcars arrive approximately every 15 minutes, and run until midnight. You can find detailed info on hours, stops, and schedules on the Q-line website.
See the "Accommodations" page for hotel parking info.
Street parking is generally the easiest option in Detroit for short-term parking. For overnight parking, we would recommend booking a spot at a lot/garage through SpotHero -- in-person fares are usually higher.
Fare-free transit: the QLINE streetcar and the Detroit People Mover light rail.
The Q-Line is an at-grade street car that runs along Woodward from Downtown to New Center. It is good for getting between Downtown, Midtown, and New Center.
The People Mover is an above-grade light rail system that runs in a loop around Downtown.
The above options are geared towards visitors to the city: they're convenient as they don't require passes or app downloads, but they are only particularly helpful for getting around Downtown, or from Downtown out to Midtown or New Center.
For other destinations, the DDOT and SMART bus systems cover Detroit and surrounding areas. You can get a 4 hour pass for $2, or a 24 hour pass for $5. Passes labeled as "DART" work for both systems. We generally buy passes for DDOT/SMART via the TokenTransit app.
Bikeshare - MoGo is the Detroit metro area's bikeshare system. You can pick up and drop off bikes at any of the red MoGo stations around the city. See website for info on different fare options.
Bike Rentals - We would recommend Wheelhouse Detroit, along the Detroit Riverwalk for bike rentals downtown. This is more cost-effective than MoGo if you're planning to keep the bike for more than an hour, and are able to pick up and drop off the bike at the same place. You can also rent helmets, locks, etc. here.
